New Music Week of 5/26/12
went a bit crazy one music this week, though in my defense a large amount was free downloads from one of my favorite dance labels of the moment:
Laurel Halo - Quarantine; the latest full length from Hyperdub is one of the best albums of the year. I was looking forward to this for a while and it does not disappoint.
Night Slugs - various mp3s; NIght Slugs is one of my favorite dance labels right...

New Music Week of 5/12/12
quite a bit of new music that I think I will need to digest for a couple weeks:
Iamamiwhoami - Idle Talk & Rascal; they have been on a tear with new videos and singles ahead of their album in June. These last two are perhaps my least favorite, but still very good
Breton - Other People’s Problems; I know nothing about this group other than they are English. a fairly perfect mingling of...

New Music Week of 5/5/12
Actually didn’t get anything last week, and this week was just a couple of free downloads:
Mister Lies - I Walk; this is a really intriguing new producer from Chicago who seems to be sitting in the James Blake/Ifan Dafydd vein of electro R&B
Henry Chinaski - Sleepy Bedtime Mix for Young Ones; supposedly a new mix from the Avalanches of old vocal music and jazz
probably be picking up a...

New Music Week of 4/21/02
Not a lot of time, but a ton of new music so this will be a quick one:
Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland - Black is Beautiful; Hyperdub continues its monster year with this sure to be polarizing album from the duo behind Hype Williams. I love it but know many won’t
Slugabed - Sex EP; great slice of Future Funk from this awesome producer
Super Bourgou de Parakou - The Bariba Sound 1970-1976;...

New Music Week of 4/7/12
I actually didn’t add any new music to my library last week, but made up for that this week with a few purchases, so here you go:
Claude VonStroke & Jaw - Le Fantôme; Fantastic new(ish) single from the fabulous house/techno producer most well known for the absolute anthem “Who’s Afraid of Detroit?”
Iamamiwhoami - Play; another new single, and video, from...

New Music Week of 3/24/12
I have been trying to keep my music purchasing to a minimum so as to better absorb the music I do buy in addition to digging deeper into my existing catalog, so it was a small week this week.
DVA - Pretty Ugly; Leon Smart AKA Scratcha AKA DVA began life as a grime DJ before embracing a wider pallet of sounds, especially UK Funky. This album for the always innovative and on point Hyperdub takes UK...

New Music Week of 3/17/12
I was in a serious 80s mood this past week so I grabbed a number of mp3s that I didn’t already have in my collection. I won’t go into detail on all the songs I grabbed, but I will give you the artists:
OMD - The OMD Singles; the only album I bought this week. I always enjoyed the OMD songs I heard, but never realized how solid their entire catalog is.
other artists added this week...

New Music Week of 3/10/12
a little late with this as I spent the weekend in a lodge with no internet or cell reception, but also not a lot of new music to report. still digging into some of the stuff from earlier in the month:
Polica - Give You the Ghost; finally grabbed the debut album from this Minneapolis ‘it’ band who seem to be making serious waves out in the rest of the world. Have heard nothing but good...

New Music Week of 3/3/12
got so much the last couple of weeks, I wasn’t looking for more but more found me:
Ifan Dafydd - No Good/Miranda & Treehouse; great new post dubstep producer on a serious James Blake flex (rumors at first were that it was an alias). Treehouse is an awesome tune
Spotify playlist updates:
Grimes - Genesis
Cut Copy - Sun God (Andrew Weatherall Remix)
Lambchop - Gone Tomorrow

New Music Week of 2/25/12
Yet another week with a big batch of newness, and with a distinct Afrobeat theme going on:
Fela - Yellow Fever/Na Poi, Monkey Banana/Excuse-O, and Stalemate/Fear Not For Man; I already have a large collection of Fela’s music but whenever I see something used that I don’t have, I have to take the opportunity to add to it and I came across these the other day. Surprisingly Monkey Banana...

New Music Week of 2/18/12
slightly larger music roundup this week
Young Magic - Melt; brilliant debut from this psychedelic indie rock trio. reminiscent of yeasayer at times.
The Weeknd - Balloons of Haus; a free download album of house-ish reworkings of songs from all three albums
Iamamiwhoami - Clump and Sever; I absolutely love this somewhat secretive and formerly anonymous synth/electro pop group. somehow had...

New Music - 2/11/12
I’m a little late on this update as I was out of town this weekend, but better late than never I suppose.
I also skipped last week because I didn’t get any new music. Getting the Bleep top 100 and its 9 hours of music provided me with enough new music that I didn’t need anything else for a couple weeks.
BUT…along to last week’s new music:
· Wiley – Evolve or Be Extinct; as I noted...

Top songs of 2012 Spotify playlist →
I will openly admit that I am stealing this idea from Sasha Frere-Jones, but it’s a good idea so why not?
For people on Spotify, the link above goes to a playlist that I will be updating as the year progresses with my favorite songs. some will be of the moment and some will have staying power, but in the end it should be fun.
To start things off the first 4 songs are:
Young Magic -...
